Once school starts and the calendar hits September, I always enjoy adding pops of fall around the house. Nothing elaborate or too fussy, just hints of the change in season. We get out our fall recipes, burn an autumn candle or simmer mulling spices on the stove and swap out flip flops and shorts for jackets and boots. It’s weird how so many of these little shifts can quickly make it feel like the beginning of a new season.
I love all of the tradition that this time of year unfolds…apple picking, bonfires, school field trips and trick or treat night. I have so many fun memories of fall as a child.
Besides all of the fun events going on this time of year, I love adding a little bit of fall to our home. It’s one more reminder that the crisp air is sticking around and the free spiritedness of summer is behind us.
Here are few of my favorite ways to bring fall indoors…
I love the boldness of buffalo plaid. It gives great contrast to so many different color palettes. Adding mini pumpkins (real or faux) to bowls and vases around the house add a nice pop of texture and color. The large wooden sticks in the corner are another great way to add warmth for the fall and winter months.
I love these small gold pumpkins for bookshelves and bathrooms.
I usually add only a few new seasonal accessories each year. I love this leaf stand that just came out by Crate and Barrel. Very fall, but not trendy. They currently offer two other leaf styles as well.
I love the texture of this chevron pumpkin by Target.
Candles always add a great feel year around. I love the warm color palette of this plaid one.
Pillows are such a quick way to change the feel of a house. The buffalo plaid pillow pairs well with this festive pumpkin pillow. A kid favorite!
A low centerpiece and a simple linen table runner keep the fall table decor simple and easy to manage with the kids. The metal oval bowl is filled with moss balls and real white pumpkins.
Wheat stalks flanking the stove.
I love all of the fall candles at Anthro right now, they have so many fun scents to pick from like this espresso one. I also love leaving a jar of mulling spices on the counter. The house smells SO good when we simmer a pot on the stove.
Decorating your home for fall should be fun. If you’ve never added any pops of seasonal decor, start with a few basics. Pillows and real miniature pumpkins are a great place to start. Add a new piece or two each season to really make your home feel cozy.
