Denim + Fig was born after recently putting a pause on my full time job as an interior designer. I have always loved design. The way a space makes you feel when you’re in it. Whether that be a restaurant or boutique hotel…it sets the entire mood around you. The most intimate space being our homes. I am an interior designer but my first priority is my family and our personal home. We just had our third baby. #3 pushed me over the edge to stay home. I haven’t regretted that decision for a minute. Working on projects every weekend and into the wee hours of the night doesn’t bode well with three little ones who just want you to blow bubbles with them in the backyard. I still have such a passion brewing for design, fashion and overall lifestyle finds. Denim + Fig is the perfect way to keep my creative juices flowing all while tending to my three sweet babies… Latham (5), Dollie (2) and Reece (our newest addition).
David (my husband) and I are used to having some sort of large scale project going on in our lives at all times. I started a bridal shop with my sister in law, ran my own interior design business, designed and built our own home alongside my husband, all while having three babies in the meantime. It all takes a lot of work, but MAN it’s rewarding to create things that you are passionate about. Now that the dust has settled again, I’m ready to start writing and reconnect with so many of my previous clients through this blog. Denim being the fashion side and fig (as in fig tree) representing all things design.
This blog idea has been a long time coming. I’ve been toying with it for years and realized there never really is a perfect time to take on a new adventure. I’m not sure of the direction this blog will take, but like anything new, you have to feel it out, stay true to yourself and let it organically take on a life of its own.
My hope with all of this is to instill confidence in YOUR personal style, whether that be for your home or wardrobe, and bring some lightheartedness along the way. Most of my previous design clients had great taste, just not a lot of time or resources at their fingertips to find what they were looking for to complete their project. Denim + Fig will naturally reflect my everyday style…one that I hope will inspire you.
Ramblings “about me”:
David and I got married at 21 but have been together since we were 15. He’s my rock, my best friend and someone I laugh out loud with daily. Latham (our oldest) is constantly saying, “Mom, why do you laugh with dad so much? It’s WEIRD!” It reminds me how much I truly love David. He really is the best thing that ever happened to me. We both work from home and enjoy working together and juggling three kids together. Our days are messy and chaotic at home, but also full of love. We usually have music playing in the background most days…currently Bob Marley, and someone yelling out that so and so pooped their diaper again.
I’m a very calm person but if something bugs me enough or if someone (including my kids) push me over the edge enough…I lose my cool.
I won’t rush into any decisions and sometimes that can be a detriment.
I’m super organized in my head, but ask my husband and I’m a train wreck.
My to do list is never complete and I have a post-it usage problem.
I love to bake.
I love a good hard workout.
I’m a perfectionist that sometimes can’t let things go. I have to fidget with accessories until I get them just so or redo an email several times until I convey exactly what I want to say. I know, total waste of time.
I’m comfortable with failure in most aspects of life. It hurts for a few days and then your muscles repair and you feel a little wiser.
I’m a geek for documentaries. Topics such as holistic health and an Everest expedition are the perfect way to wind down a night.
I’m totally cool with someone always being smarter, richer and more beautiful inside and out. Be inspired by it.
I love to travel…both with and without the kids.
I have good intentions when I start reading a book but rarely finish.
I love a good sunrise or sunset. It always stops me in my tracks. The beauty of the master designer. Such inspiration.
I’m an introvert and would much rather talk to you over coffee than over the phone.
I love dinner parties. Nothing too fancy…just good food, fun music and laughter with friends.
My dream date would be cooking with Ina Garten.
I value my friendships and always try to make time to catch up with them. I haven’t always been a loyal friend, but as I get older, I see the importance of true friendship. It’s a two way street.
Most importantly, I love the Lord. I don’t know what I would do without prayer, and reflecting on His will for me. My faith is the most important aspect of my life and who I am at the very core. May this light of mine always shine bright.
